WHO WE ARE

Our Past, Present & Future

History

Baptist High School, Jos was started in an old miner's camp in the North side of Jos, near a village called Yelwa on February 14th, 1961. The school started with three members of staff and thirty students. The members of staff were Mr. W.A. Cowley as Principal, Mr. S.S. Ayanda as Food Master, and Mr. E.A. Areo as House Master. There were many difficulties faced, such as lack of water, proper lights and adequate accommodation.

The school moved to its present site in 1962. One of the classrooms was used as dormitory and electricity was supplied to the school. After the first term in 1962, the first dormitory, Naraguta House, was ready for use. In November of 1963, the school was officially opened by the Acting Regional Minister of Education, Honourable Mr. S.S. Ajayi. By November of 1963, other buildings were completed. These were the two classroom blocks, Whirley House, the Dining Hall and the Chapel.

Performance

The school has maintained consistently more than 90% credit in five subjects and above through the years in WASC, WASSCE, GCE, and SSCE. The school has also won many prizes and competitions over the years. By the grace of God, the school is marching from one victory to another. May God be glorified!
